What to wear
This is a village visit, not a beach outing, and the general local custom is modest dress — shoulders and knees covered — rather than swimwear or very short clothing. Some buildings on the village walk may call for shoes off at the door, in keeping with local practice, so shoes that slip on and off easily are worth choosing over anything with laces.
Bringing children
The programme — a welcome, a walk, a show and a feast — suits families reasonably well, and nobody is required to drink kava; children can watch the ceremony without taking part. The later finish (drop-off typically after 9pm) is the main practical factor to weigh for younger kids on an evening booking.
Dietary requirements
The lovo dinner is a set feast rather than an à la carte menu, so dietary requirements are worth flagging when you book rather than on the night. The GetYourGuide listing is the place to check what the current evening can accommodate.
What the evening cools down to
Nadi's evenings drop noticeably once the sun goes down, even after a warm day, and the walk back to the coach at the end of the night can be cooler than expected in just beachwear. A light layer for later in the evening is a small, easy thing to pack.
Trying kava as a family
Adults are offered a choice between a half cup ("low tide") and a full cup ("high tide"), so there's no obligation to drink more than you're comfortable with — a reasonable way for a family group to take part at whatever level suits each person.
